Shillong, July 23: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance pertaining to the viral video clip where police personnel were seen ‘insensitively’ handling the body of the East Garo Hills murder victim who was brutally hacked to death by her alleged boyfriend recently.
It also directed the Superintendent of Police to submit a report on the matter.

Calling out the mishandling of the body by the police, MHRC secretary L Ch Marak
in a statement issued on Tuesday pointed out that the body was not covered and handled openly, which is seen by the onlookers.
Marak also stated that it was alleged that the One Stop Centre (OSC) at Williamnagar did not take appropriate action when the victim approached the centre.

The Commission directed the Superintendent of Police, East Garo Hills district to submit a report on this matter.
The Commission also directed the Director of Social Welfare to submit a report along with a copy of the press clipping to the Social Welfare director.
