Missing girl child found dead, SIT to probe ‘murder’

Shillong, Sept 15: The four-year-old girl, who was reported missing, was tragically found dead inside an under-construction house of her locality, Nongrah Nonglum, in Shillong on Monday morning.

In a disturbing scene, a rock placed on the child’s lifeless body in an apparent attempt to drown it in a small pit filled with rainwater.

The body was spotted around 8.45 am on Sunday by a labourer working at the construction site located around 100 metre from her house.

The girl, Insaphira Lyngdoh Mawnai, went missing early Sunday morning while playing in the courtyard of her home, at a time when her family members were still asleep.

Meanwhile, the state police decided to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be headed by SP (City) Herbert Kharkongor to probe into the tragic death of the little girl.

An alert was sounded across all police stations, and a lookout notice was issued.

Forensic experts took samples at the site and post mortem of the body was conducted at NEIGRIHMS, East Khasi Hills police chief Vivek Syiem said.

Police are awaiting the post-mortem report, he said while informing that a murder case has been registered.

“We are examining the labourer (who found her body). We will be examining more people as the investigation progresses,” he said.
