Muga farmers encouraged to avail govt schemes

Shillong, Nov 29: The importance of sericulture for the social and economic uplift of the farmers was explained in detail during the Muga field day organised by CSB, MESSO, P-3 Unit, Rompara at State Farm, Resubelpara, North Garo Hills on Thursday.

A total of 70 participants were present during the programme where a healthy discussion was exchanged between the farmers and experts. 

The District Sericulture Officer, North Garo Hills, R C Rabha presided over the programme while Dr. Vikram Kumar, Scientist-C and in-charge welcomed the guests and explained the objective of holding the event. Kumar specially mentioned about the different government schemes and how the scheme is going to help the Muga farmers in the future.

S G Momin, STA, MESSO, P-4 Unit, Mendipathar explained to the farmers about the quality seed production procedure, care and sanitation measures to be taken during the grainage operation and also explained the advantage of Muga rearing over traditional crops.

R C Rabha, DSO, North Garo Hills elaborated to the farmers about the different diseases of Muga and symptoms to identify them and also explained the importance of disinfection for the controlling of diseases.

Concluding the event, D Marak, Senior Technical Assistant, P-3 Unit, Rompara conveyed vote of thanks to all dignities and farmer participants present at the programme.
