Mumbai, Jan 6: The Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (AIDC) organized a high-profile roadshow in Mumbai on Monday to set the stage for the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit, scheduled for February 25-26 in Guwahati.
Led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the event drew participation from senior government officials and industry leaders, showcasing Assam’s economic transformation and its investment potential across sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, agri-processing, green industries, and tourism.
Preceding the roadshow, a series of Government-to-Business (G2B) meetings on January 4 and 5 facilitated in-depth discussions with executives from leading companies like Tata Group, Mahindra Group, Adani Group, and Larsen & Toubro. These meetings emphasized Assam’s business-friendly policies and commitment to fostering long-term partnerships.
Speaking at the event, CM Sarma highlighted Assam’s strategic location, stating, “Within three hours of flying from Guwahati, industries can access 30% of the world’s population across 14 countries, making Assam an ideal hub for trade and cultural exchange.”
He emphasized the state’s rapid infrastructural growth post-2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, with over ₹65,000 crore invested in roads, railways, and digital connectivity. Assam is targeting a GSDP of $143 billion by 2029-30, supported by a $26 billion capital investment plan.
Sarma detailed Assam’s unique investment policies, designed to cater to diverse industry needs. “We’ve created a single-line investment policy that’s flexible and customized,” he said, reiterating the state’s commitment to transparency and equality for all investors.
He assured attendees that Assam’s government is ready to restructure regulations to facilitate industries, adding, “Laws should be facilitators, not obstacles.”
Sarma also touched upon Assam’s social development initiatives, including scholarships for girls, free education for underprivileged students, and healthcare partnerships like the state’s collaboration with Tata Trust to establish a world-class cancer care network.
On education, he noted the establishment of 23 medical colleges, with 13 already operational and 10 under development, as part of Assam’s efforts to enhance human capital.
The Chief Minister’s vision extends to transforming Assam into a manufacturing hub and a gateway for trade with ASEAN and SAARC countries. He emphasized Assam’s unique role in India’s growth, describing the Northeast as the “Ashtalakshmi” and a vital region for cross-border trade with neighboring nations like Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.
Sarma concluded with a call to action, inviting investors to participate in Advantage Assam 2.0. “Join us on February 24th for a cultural showcase with 10,000 youth performing for PM Modi. The main conference on February 25-26 will reaffirm your confidence in investing in Assam,” he stated.
The roadshow successfully positioned Assam as a key player in India’s economic landscape, ready to attract global and domestic investments while driving sustainable development.
