National quiz competition on Zubeen Garg held at USTM

Shillong, Dec 2: Honouring the remarkable journey, artistic legacy, and humanitarian values of Zubeen Garg, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya organised the national quiz competition on the life and activities of the singer as part of the Founder’s Day 2025 celebrations.

The first prize, carrying a prestigious cash award of Rs 25,000 along with a Certificate of Appreciation, was secured by team “Mukti,” consisting of Bhargav Bhushan Biswapati, Bikas Das, and Debasish Deka from Bhattadev University and DIET, Nalbari, for their outstanding performance and consistent accuracy throughout the competition.

The second prize, amounting to Rs 20,000, was awarded to Jowarjit Kashyap, Abhinav Saikia, and Debasish Deka from Gauhati University and Guwahati Commerce College. The third prize, with a cash reward of Rs 15,000, was won by Arya Kalpa Bhattacharya, Jyotiraj Gogoi, and Jitul Koch from DIET Dhemaji and Dhemaji College, recognising their commendable effort and competitive spirit. Three consolation prizes of Rs 2500 were also awarded.

With the theme “Celebrating the Life & Activities of Zubeen Garg: Where Knowledge Meets Zubeenism,” the event followed intense and engaging rounds.

The day also observed a Founder’s Day Pitch Competition, organised by the Centre for Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (CIIE), which brought together young innovators.

After several impressive presentations, the judges evaluated the pitches based on innovation, feasibility, and impact, and selected the winners for cash awards amounting to Rs 50,000, which included the first prize of Rs 20,000 awarded to team Neuroflex, the second prize of Rs 15,000 secured by team F&V Agro Tech, and the third prize of Rs 10,000 to team Nanoheal Innovators, along with two consolation prizes of Rs 2,500 each.

The winners of both competitions were felicitated during the prize distribution ceremony, in the esteemed presence of Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM; Prof. G. D. Sharma, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Abhinandan Das, Principal, PIMC; Dr. Rama Kanta Sarma, Principal, IAMC; Dr. Gayatree Goswamee, Dean, PQSE; Dr. B. S. Mipun, Professor, Department of Earth Science; Dr. Garima Kalita, Dean, School of Social Sciences & Humanities; and Dr. Mitali Goswami, Professor and Head, Department of English.
