Shillong, June 4: The North Eastern region will form the “central core” of Viksit Bharat by 2047, Union DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia said on the sidelines of the 73rd Plenary of North Eastern Council (NEC), also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in Shillong on Thursday.
“By 2047 as the Bharat becomes a viksit, the North East will become a very central core of that Viksit Bharat 2047,” the DoNER Minister said.
“The Home Minister has set the path for the NEC and for all our eight states for the next 12 months. We are now going to work as per his direction,” he said.
Terming the eight North Eastern states the future “Ashtalakshmi of India”, the DoNER Minister said, “They will become the Ashtalakshmi of India as we advance towards Viksit Bharat 2027.”
“Under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the eight states are going from strength to strength,” he said while crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “visionary vision” for driving growth in the region.
“The leaps of progress that the North East had undertaken under Prime Minister’s visionary vision has actually led to huge economic growth across the length and breadth of the North East,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2047, Scindia said the region’s role would be pivotal.
The two-day NEC plenary, chaired by Amit Shah, is reviewing ongoing projects and finalizing development priorities for the North Eastern states for 2026-27.
