Shillong, Dec 19: Several associations of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have requested the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Pro VC) of NEHU Tura Campus to tender his resignation within 24 hours, alleging “administrative crisis” and “institutional paralysis” in the university.
NEHUSU, NEHUTA, NEHUNSA, METTA, and KSU-NEHU Unit are among the signatories of a joint letter to the Pro VC seeking his resignation from the post while highlighting the absence of a regular Vice-Chancellor, severe administrative instability, and resignation of key functionaries.
“We jointly and respectfully request you to tender your resignation from the post of Pro Vice-Chancellor, Tura Campus, in the larger interest of the University and its stakeholders,” the letter states.
The unions claim assurances from the Ministry’s representatives to address the crisis haven’t been implemented, and the Pro VC’s continuation in office is “no longer tenable”.
They’ve given a 24-hour ultimatum for a response, threatening further action if not received.
“You are hereby requested to communicate your decision within 24 hours from the receipt of this letter, failing which the undersigned bodies shall be compelled to take further steps in accordance with their collective decision and democratic mandate,” the letter further added.
