NEHU non-teaching staff launch non-cooperation movement

Shillong, Nov 14: Not convinced by the appointment of pro-vice-chancellors in North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong and Tura campuses, the NEHU Non-Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) has launched a non-cooperation movement against the incumbent VC PS Shukla.

In an appeal to the two Pro-VCs appointed after nine days of hunger strike led by NEHU Students Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) NEHU unit, NEHUNSA stated, “We appeal to both Prof SM Sungoh and Prof Fameline K Marak not to accept the appointments.”

Prof Sunngoh and Prof Marak were appointed as Pro-VCs of NEHU’s Shillong and Tura campus respectively.

NEHUNSA had earlier launched a strike demanding appointment of Pro-VCs in Shillong and Tura campuses, but it was the students’ agitation demanding removal of NEHU registrar and deputy registrar and later the VC as well that prompted the university authorities to appoint the Pro-VCs.

“This is a last-ditch effort made by the Vice Chancellor to save his chair,” NEHUNSA president Dr WR Synrem said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He informed that the NEHUNSA had resolved that all its members would not participate in any meetings, directions and policy decisions directed by the VC.

“NEHUNSA also directs all faculties holding administrative posts such as assistant registrar in-charge to comply with the resolution of NEHUNSA,” he stated.
