Tura, Mar 27: The appointment of Dr Fameline K Marak as the pro vice-chancellor of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Tura Campus, which has witnessed long absence of a dedicated Pro VC, has been welcomed by the student and teacher fraternity.
“May her tenure bring about transformation that NEHU Tura Campus has long yearned for,” said Chakram D Sangma, president of Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU), NEHU Tura Campus.
He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to working alongside the new Pro VC to ensure holistic development of the campus.
The NEHU Tura Campus, which has stood as a beacon of higher education in Garo Hills, had been operating under a director-in-charge for nearly four years.
However, the absence of a dedicated Pro VC has presented numerous administrative and academic challenges as the director-in-charge had limitations in influencing university-wide decisions.
The appointment of the Pro VC is expected to significantly enhance the Tura Campus’s ability to advocate for its needs, and facilitate long-overdue infrastructural and academic reforms.
The NEHU Tura Campus, which has 17 colleges affiliated to it, faces severe infrastructural deficiencies, insufficient hostel accommodations, irregular faculty and staff recruitment, lack of proper departmental buildings, and inadequate laboratory facilities.
