NEIAH PG students on hunger strike

BJP assures students of taking up matter with Centre

Shillong, Dec 1: A delegation of state BJP leaders led by cabinet minister AL Hek visited and met the agitating post graduate students of North East Institute of Ayurveda & Homoeopathy (NEIAH) on Sunday.

The students have been staging hunger strike demanding increase in stipend and affiliation of the PG course with NEHU among other demands.

In a statement, BJP chief spokesperson M Kharkrang said, “Based on the status given by the officials it was expected that their main grievances will be attended to within 8/10 days.”

According to BJP, the students alleged non-response of faculty members to the students’ grievances.

Undergraduate students were also lending support to the PG students in their agitation, the BJP said.

“The BJP delegation earnestly requested them to suspend their hunger strike especially after one of them has been shifted to hospital,” it said.

The BJP assured the students of taking up the matter with Central government.
