Guwahati, Dec 21: Berry Thompson, a solo bike rider from Georgia, USA, who had only recently been in Tura to participate in the North East Riders’ Meet (NERM) has been killed in a tragic road accident in Assam’s Lumding on Saturday.
She was travelling on NH 27, en route from Silchar to Lumding, when the fatal incident occurred.
The accident took place opposite the Hill Dhaba on the Lumding-Haflong highway. Thompson was riding an Enfield Himalayan motorcycle with registration number AS 11 N 0804 when a speeding Ashok Leyland 1109 truck collided with her bike. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.
Thompson was rushed to Lumding Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Berry Thompson was known for her adventurous spirit and love for biking. Her death has left the biking community in shock and mourning. Many riders expressed their sorrow and called for better road safety measures to prevent such tragedies.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for all riders. Berry’s passion for exploring new places on her bike inspired many of us,” said a local biking enthusiast.
Police are investigating the incident and are seeking the truck and its driver. Eyewitness testimonies and surveillance footage from the area are being reviewed to identify the vehicle.
Thompson’s untimely death serves as a somber reminder of the dangers on the road and the need for enhanced road safety for all travelers.
