Shillong, Sept 30: Newly appointed chief secretary of Meghalaya Dr Shakil P Ahammed has expressed optimism about the state’s future, citing confidence in the long-term development plan that aims to propel progress up to 2032.

Taking charge of his new role, Dr Ahammed pledged to guide the state’s efforts towards achieving the set goals.

According to him, the plan, outlined by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, provides a clear roadmap for the state’s development.

“…definitely as one of the senior members of the team I will try to guide it, faster, quicker, better within my capacity. I am confident that the entire team is quite committed, sincere and definitely under the guidance of the chief minister and cabinet ministers, we should be able to (achieve it),” Dr Ahammed told reporters on Tuesday.

Responding to a question, Dr Ahammed highlighted the potential for employment in the finance sector, particularly in fintech and accounting. He emphasized that the state is already working on sector-wise plans, which will be reviewed to identify areas of opportunity and support.

On improving the work culture in the state, the new chief secretary expressed his optimism about Meghalaya being a conducive place to work. He plans to set clear targets, which are already outlined, and work with the team to achieve them.

The focus will be on outcome-oriented approaches, as declared by the Chief Minister, to ensure that every plan and project yields tangible results, he concluded.
