Newborn dies in hospital toilet

Nongpoh, Sept 23: A baby, delivered accidentally inside a toilet in Nongpoh Civil Hospital, passed away on Saturday evening.

The woman Monalisa Langi from Umden Diwon in Ri-Bhoi district was initially taken to Umden Primary Health Centre (PHC). As she was in severe labour pain, she was referred to Nongpoh Civil Hospital late on the night of September 20.

After continuously experiencing labour pain, she was administered a pain relief pill.

Not relieved yet, she went to the toilet, where she unexpectedly delivered the baby. However, the newborn did not survive.

Meanwhile, a clarification has been sought from the hospital authorities by members of Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) regarding the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
