No evidence of malpractice in police job exams: Dy CM

‘Forces along border put on high alert after eviction drives in Assam’

Shillong, July 25: No evidence of malpractice during the recent written examination for jobs in state police has been found and the results of the exam are expected to be declared soon.

An investigation was carried out by the Director General of Police (DGP) into allegations of unfair means during the examination and found no evidence of any malpractice in the examination centres across the state, said deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Friday.

Admitting receipt of such complaints, Tynsong said, “Initially, some complaints reached my table also and I had asked DGP to find out the facts… ultimately we got all the details and found out that there was no such unfair means in the examination centres throughout the state.”

The deputy chief minister also informed that results of the written exams are being processed and will be declared soon.

“Hopefully, very soon we will be able to declare results of the already-held exams,” he said.

Around 36,000 to 37,000 job aspirants appeared in the exam.

Meanwhile, Tynsong reiterated that the joint inspection by regional committees of Meghalaya and Assam to the remaining six areas of difference may be delayed due to the upcoming assembly elections in the neighbouring state.

Also chairman of the regional committee for Ri-Bhoi district, Tynsong said preparation for assembly polls in Assam next year is likely to keep all parties, MLAs, and ministers busy, which may further delay the joint inspection.

He said Meghalaya side is waiting for the Assam counterpart to fix a date for the joint inspection as per convenience of both parties.

“We have already requested that. Let us see and once we get the indication from their side then we will accordingly fix the date,” Tynsong added.

He also noted that Assam side has three-four chairmen of different locations whereas Meghalaya side has only three chairmen that include deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar for West Jaintia Hills sector and Paul Lyngdoh for West Khasi Hills sector.

Meanwhile, Tynsong also said there has been no report of any infiltration of illegal immigrants into Meghalaya, especially following the massive eviction drives in Assam against illegal settlers in revenue and forest lands.

“Till today there is no information of any infiltration (into the state),” Tynsong said while assuring the government will update the public if any detection or infiltration is reported.

Tynsong also informed that the state government has taken proactive measures to prevent any potential influx of illegal immigrants.

“We already instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) and also all concerned district administrations and the SPs to be more vigilant in case there is any kind of influx through Assam (who are) trying to enter the state of Meghalaya,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured that security forces, including the BSF, customs, and state police, are on high alert and have been instructed to be more vigilant and proactive in detecting illegal immigrants within the state.
