Shillong, Apr 29: In the wake of government of India’s order to all Pakistan nationals to leave India immediately, the state government has clarified that no Pakistani national is currently residing in Meghalaya.

Informing this on Tuesday, deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said the government is closely monitoring the situation along the international border with Bangladesh.

“Right now, we don’t have any Pakistani civilians in Meghalaya,” Tynsong told reporters.

To ensure close monitoring of international border with Bangladesh, the government is in touch with central agencies such as Border Security Force (BSF), he said.

Admitting that the situation is very fluid, Tynsong said clear instructions have been given to ensure no infiltrators get to enter the Indian territory.

The government also instructed all the traditional heads and village authorities to cooperate with the security agencies to thwart infiltration across the border.

Tynsong admitted that arrests of Bangladeshi nationals from different parts of the state are a matter of concern, and said, “We monitor 24×7 and in case if anything happens, we are ready to meet all those challenges.”

Meanwhile, Tynsong informed that the government is also trying its best to resolve the land issue along the unfenced portion of the international border.

“There were stretches which are yet to be resolved. Landowners and sometimes the village authorities are against it,” he said.

With the fencing, long of landowners are set to see portion of their land falling outside fencing, in “no man’s land”.

The government is trying to work out a solution to the issue, he said.
