Nongstoin VDP seeks govt support for community welfare

Shillong, Sept 4: The Village Defence Primary Committee Nongstoin Area has sought the support of the state government in minimizing crime and anti-social activities in the Nongstoin area.

In a memorandum submitted to the social welfare minister Paul Lyngdoh, the VDPCNA said it has been working closely with the Police department, conducting joint patrols and apprehending criminals.

“Despite our best efforts, certain crimes and disturbances continue to persist, creating challenges for the VDPCNA. Therefore, we respectfully bring the following issues to your attention and to kindly request your support, for the betterment of our communities and society at large,” It stated.

The VDPCNA has suggested measures that include converting the unused Agriculture Office building into a rehabilitation centre to address pressing community needs.

It has requested the government to provide VDPCNA-labeled uniforms to distinguish members during patrols and raids besides streamlining the registration and renewal process for village defence committees to access honorariums, tools, and kits.

The VDPCNA has asserted the need for implementing regular night patrols, installing CCTV cameras, and enforcing stricter regulations against illegal alcohol sales to address drug abuse, public drinking, and violent crime.
