NPP ready to face challenges in Manipur: Conrad

New office bearers of NPP Manipur felicitated in Shillong

Shillong, Dec 2: The National People’s Party (NPP) is ready to face challenges in Manipur, which is plagued by law-and-order crisis and political instability, NPP chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Tuesday.

“Challenges will always be there, and challenges mean opportunities also,” Sangma told reporters after felicitating newly appointed NPP Manipur state president Dr Lorho S Pfoze at the party office here.

Sangma also felicitated Manipur’s newly appointed leader of legislative party Rameshwar M Singh, chief whip Loken Singh and Manipur NPP’s newly appointed working presidents – Janghemlung Panmei and Noorul Hasan on the occasion.

The NPP chief said the party under Dr Lorho S Pfoze’s leadership will work to convert these challenges into opportunities.

“We hope that we will be able to convert those challenges into opportunities and grow as a party,” he said adding, “Manipur state is going through difficult and challenging times and because of the local situation and the situation especially in the past two-and-a-half years.”

Referring to the overall law-and-order situation and political turmoil, he said, “We feel that under these challenging circumstances, the party under the leadership of Lorho will be organised to take on those challenges and more importantly convert them, as I said, into opportunities for the party as a whole.”

On comments made by senior party leaders, Sangma said, “We respect the comments by all our senior leaders. Our party is a democratic party. We believe in voice being given out or views being expressed as a positive thing.”

The NPP is focused on working for all communities in Manipur and the region, Sangma emphasised, saying, “We are a party that is very secular. We believe in working for all the communities in the state as well as in the region.”

Earlier while congratulating Dr Lorho S Pfoze on his appointment as the party’s Manipur state president, the NPP chief said it’s a crucial time for the state and the party.

“Dr Lorho’s experience as a parliamentarian and his dedication to the people and the region make him the ideal person to lead the party in Manipur,” Sangma said, highlighting Pfoze’s soft-spoken nature and commitment to principles.

The NPP aims to strengthen its presence in Manipur and the Northeast, with Pfoze expected to play a key role in organizing the party and preparing for the 2027 elections.

Sangma assured Pfoze of the national committee’s support, saying, “We will work closely with you to ensure that we are able to organise a party in the right way forward.”
