“NPP was born in the North East, built by the people of the North East, with no outside influence. Today, we proudly stand as the only party from the region with national party status” – Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister, Meghalaya
Kohima, June 28: With the roots of National People’s Party (NPP) in Manipur has further strengthened with several senior political leaders joining the party fold at a programme held in neighbouring Nagaland’s capital Kohima on Friday.
Welcoming the new members to the party, NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma termed it a proud moment that establishes the party’s growing influence in the North East.
He recalled the NPP’s journey since its transformation in 2012 when his father and party founder PA Sangma took over as its national president.
Acknowledging the many challenges of building a party from the ground up in the North East, he credited the success to patience, commitment, and a focused approach to regional issues.

“Building a party is not an easy task. It is very challenging, especially because there are so many factors in local politics that we cannot ignore. But through perseverance and hard work, we have kept the flag flying high and made a mark in national politics,” he said.
He further noted that the NPP is the only national party born and built entirely by the people of the North East, without outside influence.
“NPP was born in the North East, built by the people of the North East, with no outside influence. Today, we proudly stand as the only party from the region with national party status. That is a big thing,” Conrad added.
The induction of new leaders from Manipur is expected to further bolster the party’s base and unity across the region.
During the event, Conrad also congratulated Ane-ü Khaming on her appointment as the new National President of the National People’s Women’s Front (NPWF).
