Guwahati, Dec 30: In a significant breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has apprehended Gazi Rahman, a 35-year-old jihadi operative from Bhidevaguri, Kokrajhar, as part of the ongoing anti-terror operation codenamed “Operation Praghat.” Rahman is the primary suspect in a terror plot targeting leaders of the RSS and other Hindu organizations.
The absconding Gazi Rahman was arrested in Kokrajhar district and has been booked under STF Police Station Case No. 21/2024. This arrest follows weeks of coordinated efforts between the STF and Kokrajhar police.
With this arrest, the STF has apprehended a total of 12 jihadi operatives from Kokrajhar, Dhubri, and Barpeta districts over the last two weeks. This operation has focused on dismantling networks linked to terror outfits, including Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
The STF is targeting individuals and groups promoting radical ideologies, disrupting sleeper cells, and monitoring radicalization efforts in border regions. Enhanced intelligence sharing with central agencies has amplified these efforts.
A senior police official emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Assam. “The STF’s actions are part of a broader effort to counter radical ideologies and unlawful activities. Enhanced intelligence gathering and collaboration with central agencies have significantly bolstered these measures,” the official added.
