Over 9 BJP applicants for Shillong LS bypoll

Shillong, July 21: The race for the BJP ticket to contest the Shillong Parliamentary byelection is heating up, with more than nine aspirants having submitted applications to the state unit.

Pynthorumkhrah legislator and senior BJP leader AL Hek said on Tuesday that all applications have been forwarded to the national leadership by the state party president.

Hek, however, indicated that a decision may take time as the central leadership is busy with internal party restructuring. “The national office bearers and executives are yet to be finalised. They have many pressing matters. They will decide on Shillong at an appropriate time,” he told reporters.

The party is now awaiting directions from Delhi on the candidate for the upcoming byelection.
