Shillong, July 16: As part of an initiative to inspect state-run tourism infrastructure, tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday visited Kupli Orchid Resort at Priang in West Jaintia Hills district.
The minister, accompanied by local MLA Nujorki Sungoh, also took a boat ride at the resort and interacted with local residents to assess the tourism potential of Wah Kupli.

In a memorandum submitted to the minister, a delegation of Synjuk Ki Waheh Shnong Iooski-Saphai Circle sought urgent government intervention for tapping the tourism potential of 13 villages in Chutwakhu–Saphai corridor.
Calling for declaring the villages as dedicated tourism zones, they urged the government to provide various government schemes, financial support and training programmes to the villagers.
The memorandum also called for steps to clean and rejuvenate the Kupli river to promote eco-tourism and environmental conservation.
Besides, the proposed development of eco-friendly water sports activities and other sustainable tourism activities along the river.
