People of Upper Damalgre gets New Urban Health & Wellness Centre

Ampati, Jan 8: A new Urban Health & Wellness Centre (UHWC) was inaugurated on Tuesday at Upper Damalgre under Rerapara C&RD Block by Subir Marak, MLA of Rangsakona Constituency and Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industry Commission. This facility marks the 6th UHWC in the district, funded under the 15th Finance Commission, adding to the six UHWCs inaugurated last year, which are already operational.

The newly launched UHWC will provide OPD services and cater to a population of approximately 3,000 residents across six villages. Staffed with a Medical & Health Officer, Staff Nurse, ANM, and Grade IV personnel, the centre will deliver essential healthcare services, including blood pressure monitoring, blood sugar and haemoglobin level testing. Periodic health camps will also be organized, both at the centre and in surrounding villages.

In addition, the centre plans to operate a polyclinic where specialists such as dental surgeons, gynaecologists, and orthopaedics will be available once a week, based on local demands.

Delivering the keynote address, Chief Guest Subir Marak elaborated on the free diagnostics and treatments available at the UHWC and encouraged the public to maximize its benefits. He underscored the importance of the TB elimination campaign and urged individuals with symptoms to undergo screening and testing. He also addressed the growing concerns of mental health issues, substance abuse, and their impact on youth, advising families to seek counseling and treatment at the centre.

Marak further urged the public to take collective responsibility for maintaining the health facility and ensuring its effective utilization.

Additional Deputy Commissioner T. K. Sangma, who was also present on the occasion, congratulated the local community, emphasizing the importance of utilizing the health services available nearby. She highlighted the need for immunization and institutional deliveries to prevent maternal and child mortality, urging the health staff to work with dedication.

The inaugural event also featured addresses from the District Medical & Health Officer (DMHO), local Nokma, and community leaders, all of whom expressed optimism about the centre’s potential to improve health outcomes in the region.
