Guwahati, April 20: In a major breakthrough, Guwahati Police on Saturday arrested an active member of the banned militant outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from a hotel in the busy Paltan Bazar area. The arrest comes amid ongoing tensions and insurgent activity in parts of Manipur.
The militant, identified as Mayanglambam Bobby Singh (31), son of Bimol Singh, hails from Thoubal district in Manipur and is believed to be a key operative of the PLA. Police suspect Singh was involved in coordinating militant-related operations linked to the unrest in Manipur.

According to police sources, the arrest was made possible following specific intelligence inputs from the Gajaraj Intelligence Unit of the Indian Army. Acting on the tip-off, a joint team comprising personnel from Paltan Bazar Police, Basistha Police, and the Special Operation Group (SOG) East launched a coordinated raid and apprehended Singh from the hotel. He had reportedly been staying in the Beharbari area of Guwahati for some time, possibly using the city as a safe base.
Though no arms or explosives were recovered during the operation, officials seized multiple electronic devices and documents believed to contain sensitive information about militant networks and operations. The materials are currently being examined for further leads.
Singh is under interrogation at Basistha Police Station and is likely to be handed over to Manipur Police soon. Authorities are probing whether he had established any links or sleeper cells in Assam.
