POCSO court sentences two to RI

Shillong, Mar 28: The Court of Special Judge (POCSO) Shillong Swapna G Momin has convicted two persons and sentenced them to rigorous imprisonment during a recent judgement.

One Maitshaphrang Kharmawlong was found guilty and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 12 years for offence punishable under Section 6 POCSO Act; and will pay a fine of Rs. 10,000 in default of fine, to undergo simple imprisonment for another 2 months.

Additionally, for offence punishable under Section 506 IPC, the convict will face imprisonment for a period of 3 years and will pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 in default of fine, to undergo simple imprisonment for another 1 month.

The case registered with the Rynjah Police Station was investigated by Inspector Raymond Kurkalang of DEF and presently posted as Officer In-Charge at Mawngap Police Station.

In a separate ruling passed on the same day, the Court has also convicted the accused Demonstar Kharbani, who has been found guilty and sentenced to undergo “Rigorous Imprisonment for 3 years and to pay fine of Rs. 3,000 in default of fine, to undergo Simple Imprisonment for another 1 month for offence punishable U/S 8 POCSO Act.” The case, which was also registered in Rynjah police station, was investigated by WP/Inspr. Lily D. Sangma of DEF and presently posted as 2nd O/C Sadar Police Station
