Police crack down on armed gang two arrested

Shillong Sept 22: East Khasi Hills Police on Saturday arrested two persons for their involvement in a recent armed robbery case in Shillong. East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said the arrested, Max Eric Syiemlieh (25) and Melvon Tongwah (22), are also linked to an attempted robbery at Hideaway Café on September 16, where they assaulted one person.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the remaining suspects in the crimes, he added.

The arrest was made after an FIR was lodged at Sadar Police Station on September 18, regarding an armed robbery that occurred on September 14.

The complainant reported that he was confronted by three individuals on separate scooters near Little Blossom School, after closing his shop.

The assailant brandished weapons and threatened him before another individual arrived on a separate scooter and retrieved a metal rod from the boot, the complainant added.

The group proceeded to search the complainant’s belongings and robbed him of Rs 10,200 from his day’s sales, Nongtnger said.

The SP said a criminal case was promptly registered and during the course of the investigation, the two suspects were arrested on September 20.
