Programme on environmental laws held

Baghmara, Nov 15: The District Legal Services Authority South Garo Hills Baghmara under the Aiges of NALSA organised a programme on ‘Environmental laws and Harmful Impacts of Pollution and Environmental Degradation’ at Bon Market Baghmara South Garo Hills on Thursday.

Arnosh Chuang A Sangma  (LADCS)  Baghmara sensitized the people on the basic information on Polluter Pays Principle which says anyone whether the factory owner, shopkeeper or vendors will be responsible for producing pollution for paying for the damage done by them to the natural environment. The main idea behind this PPP is only to restrict the pollution caused by polluters.

He also mentioned the serious threat that may cause to the future generation if Environmental pollution is not being controlled properly. 

While Jerry M Sangma, enforcement checker, elaborated on the importance of waste segregation as plastic waste takes years to decompose and it can create habitat problems for water animals and humans. 

Waste segregation should be encouraged, he added.
