Punjab: Shopkeeper arrested for molesting 7-year-old girl in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur, Jul 22: A shopkeeper has been arrested for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl who visited his grocery store here, police said on Wednesday.

The accused, a resident of Hoshiarpur district, was arrested on Tuesday after a case was registered against him under the relevant provisions of the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, they said.

The incident took place on June 27 when the girl went to the accused’s grocery shop to buy some items.

After returning home, the child informed her mother that the accused had allegedly molested her.

When the mother confronted the shopkeeper, he allegedly threatened her, following which she approached the police, they said, adding that further investigation is underway. (PTI)
