Shillong, Apr 29: The state government is still awaiting a reply from the Centre on its request to spare some defence land for relocation of the Harijan Colony even as another high level meeting on the issue ended without any resolution on Tuesday.
Informing that the discussion on the issue was inconclusive, deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong in-charge Home (Police) said the government is actively pursuing alternative land options, including a defence area for the relocation.

“We discussed the issue also and still awaiting a communication from Government of India through the Defence Ministry,” Tynsong said.
The government had requested the Centre to allocate an unused portion of defence land for the purpose.
Commissioner and secretary (Urban Affairs) Dr Vijay Kumar is currently pursuing the matter with the Defence Ministry, he said.
“Hopefully, we will be able to get the communication very soon,” he said.
The meeting was attended by the director general of police, the chief secretary, urban affairs minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, and other senior officials of departments concerned.
