Report on Reservation Policy under examination

Expert panel report contains 4,000-5,000 pages, weighs 200 kg

Shillong, Dec 19: The voluminous report of the expert committee on the State Reservation Policy will be made public after due examinations, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Friday.

He was replying to a query on the opposition VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit’s statement about staging a protest if the report is not made public.

Informing that the report weighs 200 kg and spans around 4,000-5,000 pages, he said, “One has to go through every single word as even a comma can change the meaning of the report or the meaning of that line.”

However, he assured of releasing the report, saying, “It will be made public.”

Explaining enormity of the task, he said, “The chief secretary and other officials have to go through every line, every page and it is a very big task… they are going to submit it and they are going to show it to the cabinet and of course as soon as they give it to us, we will be made it public.”

“There is no question of not making it public,” he asserted.

Sangma emphasized the report’s importance to the people, adding, “We will definitely make it public but… being a sensitive matter, the officials cannot simply ignore even a single page or even a single word.”
