School team given send-off for football tourney in Paris 

Shillong, Mar 22: A send-off ceremony for U-17 football team of Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Bhoirymbong, headed for Paris to take part in the Indo-French Football Tournament, was held on Saturday.

The runners-up of the Subroto Mukherjee Cup (U-17) competition were selected to participate in the 2nd edition of the tournament to be held March 24 to 30.

The team shall be the sole representatives of India, participating against four French teams of the same age category.

Addressing the occasion, Hamlet Dohling, adviser to chief minister, said that Meghalaya’s success begins from the grassroots level.

Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Dikki D Shira, said the team was selected for the opportunity by Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society after their commendable performance last year.

The touring team shall comprise 16 players (including two goalkeepers), one coach, one manager, and one representative from the state.

They will also have an opportunity to train with the club Olympic Lyonnais, one of the most prominent French football clubs.
