Scouts, guides training camp ends

Ampati, Sept 16: A three-day Patrol Leaders Training Camp organised by the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides, South West Garo Hills at Mothers’ Union School, Ampati from September 11 concluded on a high note on Saturday last. 

The camp was  aimed at equipping young Scouts and Guides with leadership skills and a strong sense of community and responsibility.

A total of 248 participants attended the camp, including 120 Guides, 97 Scouts, 18 Rovers, 4 Rangers, and 9 staff members, representing schools from across the district.

A key highlight of the camp was a session on “Awareness of Drug Abuse and Early Child Pregnancy”, conducted on the second day by SDMHO, Ampati,  Dr. Lydia Sangma, Sub-Divisional Medical & Health Officer, whose insightful and motivational talk inspired the youth to make informed and responsible choices in life.

Throughout the training, students were engaged in various activities such as singing, dancing, rope knotting, rescue drills, and skill-building tasks focused on Scouting and Guiding goals. These exercises were designed to instill teamwork, leadership, discipline, and a deeper understanding of societal roles among the participants.

The camp, conducted under the leadership of District Secretary, MBS&G Ampati Pular D Shira and District Organizing Commissioner (Scouts) Debarson A Sangma, emphasized the importance of nurturing youth leaders who can make meaningful contributions to society. 

“When students understand they are part of something larger than themselves, they become empowered to lead positive change,” one official noted.
