Searches underway for missing senior railway official Subhendu Choudhary

Guwahati, Nov 25: Rescue operations are ongoing for Subhendu Choudhary, Principal Chief Safety Officer (PVSO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), who went missing on Sunday, after being swept away by the strong currents of the Lohit River near Parashuram Kund in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The incident occurred around 12:30 pm while Choudhary, aged 55, was taking a dip in the river at the sacred Parashuram Kund site.

Choudhary had been on an inspection visit with his wife, travelling from the NFR headquarters in Maligaon to Tinsukia on November 22.

The couple had travelled via air to Pasighat and Dambuk before reaching Parashuram Kund on Sunday.

The search for Choudhary involves a coordinated effort by local police from Wakro, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local fishermen and Indian Army.

An Army helicopter is conducting aerial reconnaissance, and downstream sweep searches are being carried out.

Senior railway and district officials are on-site to oversee and manage the rescue operations.

An NFR official confirmed the incident, saying: “Subhendu Choudhary, PVSO, NFR, aged around 55 years and 5’4″ in height, went missing after being swept away by the strong currents of the Lohit River near Parashuram Kund. Despite ongoing and coordinated rescue efforts, Choudhary has not yet been located.”

The efforts continue relentlessly, but as of now, there has been no sign of the missing officer. Authorities remain hopeful and are utilizing all available resources to locate him.
