Announcing her decision through an official statement, Sharma cited personal reasons for stepping down. “I have decided to resign from all my political posts in the APCC. I thank the leaders of both AICC and APCC for allowing me the opportunity to serve the people of Assam through the Indian National Congress—a party deeply connected to my upbringing,” she said.

Wishing the new leadership well, Sharma added, “I wish Gaurav Gogoi and his team all the best. I hope they can steer the party toward a better future and bring much-needed reforms from within.”

Sharma also referred to the Panchayat Elections Enquiry Committee Report, which she submitted as Member-Secretary, alongside former MP and APCC president Paban Singh Ghatowar (Chairman) and former MP R.P. Sharma (Member). She expressed hope that the recommendations made in the report would be implemented “in letter and spirit” to help strengthen the party.

Her resignation comes at a crucial time as the Congress gears up for a leadership reset ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, raising questions about internal dynamics and alignment within the state unit.
