Mobile phone, car key, purse allowed at venue
Shillong, Feb 10: With just a day left for another mega concert being hosted by Shillong this season, the authorities have geared up to ensure a smooth show of the iconic singer Ed Sheeran at JN Stadium, Polo.
Over 26,000 spectators are expected to turn up to witness the “Shape of you…” famed youth icon on February 12.
The gates of the stadium will be opened at 4 pm while the spectators have been requested to reach the venue early to avoid any kind of rush.
According to organisers, the opening performance will start at 6.15 pm.
Meanwhile, having just two entry points at the stadium has become a matter of concern for East Khasi Hills district administration.
“We are a little bit concerned,” said deputy commissioner RM Kurbah.
“We have called this meeting to alert all the people who are coming for the concert to kindly come early so that there is no kind of rush,” she told reporters on Monday.
Meanwhile, there will three exit gates.
“Children below the age of five are not allowed to attend the concert,” Kurbah said while informing that concert goers are allowed to carry only three items – mobile phones, keys and wallets.
However, the DC said, there is no plan to close down any school during the concert. “But we have to pre-empt and avoid students being stranded. That is why we are giving this alert,” she said.
On traffic regulations, district police chief Vivek Syiem informed that there will be no entry points at many places and these include no entry at Lumjingshai junction towards CRPF junction, Polo; Lumjingshai towards Police colony; Lawmali junction towards Polo; Golflinks tri-junction towards Polo; City Hut Dhaba junction towards Polo; BJP office towards Oakland, Polo; BK Bajoria towards Fourth Furlong; and Gurudwara towards St Anthony’s College.
For general public, the parking places include Red Field, Golflinks; roadside parking from TRS Restaurant to CM Connect office; roadside parking around Golflinks area; FCI junction to Lumjingshai junction; State Central Library campus; and State Convention Centre campus.
To ensure the security, Syiem said, there will be three points of checking before entering the stadium.
Police will be handling the periphery along with the security component of the event management, he said.
