Shillong stands out in live entertainment in 2025

Shillong, Dec 11: Takers for live entertainment shows are growing and the state capital Shillong, known for its taste of music, has carved a niche in it.

Shillong (213%) has been ranked fourth in the growth of consumption of live entertainment after Vishakapatanam (409%), Vadodara (230%), and Indore (214%), according to BookMyShow.

Over 1.8 million fans attended events solo, a powerful testament to India’s growing confidence in independent experiences, stated the year-end review on various aspects of Indian entertainment industry.

“This was the year India didn’t just consume entertainment, it chose it, embraced it and lived it with intention,” it said.

2025 saw a powerful 17% growth in live entertainment consumption, with 34,086 events held across the country.

“The ‘concert economy’ became mainstream, with India firmly establishing itself on the global touring map,” the BookMyShow review stated.

Meanwhile, it also acknowledged the pivotal role played by state governments in this momentum by inking MoUs with BookMyShow.

Music tourism became a defining trend of the year. A remarkable 562,032 fans travelled to another city for concerts, bringing an economic windfall to hotels, transport, restaurants and local businesses nationwide, it said.
