Six Byrnihat factories closed for violating environmental norms

Shillong, Sept 4: A total of six industrial units in Byrnihat were closed down for violating environmental norms, on Tuesday.  

During an inspection of 10 factories by a team of Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB), six were penalised for violating emission norms set by the board and were found to be using malfunctioning devices.  

Officials led by Principal Secretary of Forest & Environment, Sampath Kumar, ordered the closure of the defaulting units.
