Stage set for Gambegre verdict

Shillong, Nov 23: The stage is all set for Today’s counting of votes for the Gambegre bye election. 

Counting will started at 8 am at the office premises of the deputy commissioner, West Garo Hills, Tura. 

A total of 14 tables will be used across the 51 Polling Stations. 

As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India, the Postal ballots will be counted first at the counting table of the Returning Officer and after 30 minutes, the EVM counting will commence at the counting tables. 

As per instructions of the Election Commission of India, a three-tier security cordon has been set up at the Counting Centre.

Adequate number of CCTV cameras have been installed at  strategic locations, in consultation with the Observers, to ensure transparency and security during  the Counting 

The bye election was held on November 13, with voter turnout of  90.93 percent. 

The candidates who tried their luck in the battle of ballot include the ruling NPP candidate, Dr Mehtab Chandee A Sangma who is the wife of Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, Congress candidate, Jingjang M Marak, also the close aide of Tura MP, Saleng A Sangma, apart from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) candidate, Sadhiarani Sangma, who is an MDC and the sister-in-law of former Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, who is at present the current Leader of Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. 

Bernard N Marak of the BJP and two independents, Sengkrabirth M Marak and Jerry A Sangma are also in the fray.
