Shillong, Mar 19: The state government has sought six months from the Centre to complete enrollment and linking all beneficiaries of Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) through Aadhaar and eKYC and facial recognition system.
The state has already launched an intensive campaign for e-KYC while capturing facial recognition too started in campaign mode for SNP.
“I humbly request for providing us a window of six months to enable us to enroll and link all our beneficiaries through Aadhaar and eKYC & facial recognition system which shall be a big support extended to the State,” said chief minister Conrad K Sangma in a letter addressed to union minister for women and child development, Annapurna Devi.
Sangma also requested the union minister to consider allowing the state to cover all its recorded and registered MPR beneficiaries also for SNP during the six months.
Nearly two lakh SNP beneficiaries being left out of the system is one of the key problems faced by the state.
As per MPR data the state has 5,85,254 beneficiaries whereas under POSHAN TRACKER only 4,00,572 POSHAN 2.0 beneficiaries are registered, leaving out 1,84,682 beneficiaries.
“This is a significant 31.56% of all our eligible and registered beneficiaries which are getting missed out due to a variety of reasons,” the CM said.

He further informed that the state government has stepped up its efforts for Aadhaar enrolment and seeding of these beneficiaries.
As part of the effort, procurement of smartphones for Anganwadi workers is in its final stages, he added.
Meanwhile, he congratulated the ministry for its stupendous efforts towards welfare and well-being of children and women.
Meghalaya with its landmark & pioneering Early Childhood Development Mission also aims at the holistic development of children starting from conception till the age of 8 years, he said.
“Our goals and vision are aligned with the vision of the Ministry of Women and Child Development as we strive to battle malnutrition and eradicate stunting and wasting in our State,” he stated.
