SWGH DC tightens restrictions on events

No permission to hold fishing competitions, fetes, melas, fairs and festivals sans Taxation dept NOC

Shillong, Sept 24: In light of several events being held in South West Garo Hills without obtaining proper NOCs, the Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills has issued an order that such events will be treated as “illegal” and that no permission would be issued unless the applicant furnished No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Taxation department.

It may be noted that organising events such as fishing competitions, fetes, melas, fairs and festivals are liable to payment of tax under GST before seeking permission from the District Administration.

Organisers seeking to hold such events or competitions within the jurisdiction of South West Garo Hills district have been informed that the Deputy Commissioner is the sole authority for granting permission and that NOC from the Commissioner of Taxes, Meghalaya, Shillong and Superintendent of Taxes, Tura (as per letter No. CTA/89/2022/Pt./19 issued on January 18, 2024 by Commissioner of Taxes, Shillong) has to be produced mandatorily along with application and other relevant documents.

Other supporting documents to be attached along with the application are: Clearance Certificate from Superintendent of Police, South West Garo Hills, NOC from Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), SWGH, Ampati, NOC from concerned Nokma/Gaonbur/Sordar, NOC from owner of fish pond in case of private pond, NOC from concerned authority in case of community fish pond/lake, and NOC from concerned Nokma/Gaonbura and GHADC in case of public river.
