Teacher held for ‘raping’ girl student in Jharkhand’s Simdega

Simdega, Oct 12: Police have arrested a primary school teacher in Jharkhand’s Simdega district for allegedly raping a girl student, officials said on Monday.

The accused was arrested on Sunday after the girl’s maternal grandmother lodged a complaint at Kersai police station, they said.

“The accused teacher (50) has been sent to jail after an FIR was lodged. He was booked under sections of the POCSO Act and the BNS. The victim’s medical examination has been conducted,” Simdega DSP Ranveer Singh told PTI.

The accused allegedly used to call girls to his home, located within the jurisdiction of the same police station, for tuition and touch them inappropriately, the DSP said.

About 10 days ago, he allegedly raped the girl and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone, he said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, the DSP added. (PTI)
