
Guwahati, April 25: Tezpur University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research–Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) to strengthen collaboration in genomics, molecular biology, and human genetic research.

The MoU was formalized during a signing ceremony held in the Council Hall of Tezpur University, coinciding with a One-Day Symposium on “Emerging Trends in Biotechnology” organized by the Department of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology to mark World DNA Day.
Professor R. R. Hoque, Dean of Academic Affairs, represented Tezpur University, while Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Chief Scientist at CSIR-IGIB, signed on behalf of the institute.
The partnership aims to launch joint research projects, promote faculty and student exchanges, and host collaborative seminars and workshops.
Both institutions will leverage their respective strengths to drive innovation and address key challenges in the biological sciences. Vice Chancellor Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, in his inaugural address, said the collaboration reflects a shared vision for advancing interdisciplinary research and building academic capacity. “This MoU is a gateway to new opportunities for our young researchers and scholars,” he stated.

Dr. Rakesh Sharma emphasized IGIB’s commitment to supporting Tezpur University in pursuing high-impact research. He noted that IGIB will assist in advancing methodologies and technologies that align with national and global scientific goals.
Earlier, Dr. Rupak Mukhopadhyay, Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, welcomed the IGIB delegation and provided an overview of the department’s current programs and achievements.
The MoU is expected to catalyze cutting-edge research collaborations and elevate Tezpur University’s role in the national scientific landscape.
