Shillong, Mar 27: Drug Reduction Elimination & Action Mission (DREAM) has launched its second vocational training programme, aimed at empowering women in their recovery journey at the New Hope De-Addiction Centre for Women in Mawkasiang on Wednesday.
Women residents at the rehabilitation centre participated in the programme, displaying a high level of enthusiasm and commitment.
Various sessions covering a diverse range of skills, including beauty therapy, bakery & confectionery, electronics repair, driving & mechanics, culinary arts, embroidery & weaving, wire work, surveying were conducted at the event.
Additionally, the programme introduced the participants to overseas employment opportunities, with specific focus on countries like Japan and Germany, where skilled workers are in demand.
Information about free state-sponsored training programmes designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurial skills was also shared, offering the women valuable insights into career development opportunities available to them.
The inmates expressed their gratitude and showed a strong desire to enrol in the various training initiatives.
This vocational training initiative is part of DREAM’s ongoing mission to provide sustainable, practical skills and opportunities for women in recovery from substance use. By fostering self-reliance and economic independence, the program plays a crucial role in supporting the reintegration of these women into society, providing them with the tools and confidence to lead fulfilling, independent lives.
The event was held in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS), North-East Institute of Professional Studies (NEIPS), BIDS, and ITI.
