Training on Mediation for Community, Nokmas held at Tikrikilla

Tura, April 30: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), West Garo Hills Tura has organised a training programme on Mediation for Community and Nokmas of Tikrikilla area at MFC Hall, Tikrikilla. The programme has been organised as part of the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of Meghalaya Funded Project (Under DISHA Scheme) titled “Increasing Access to Justice through Community Mediation”.

Speaking on the occasion, MJS and Officer on Special Duty, MSLSA T T M Sangma informed that this training on Mediation is being held especially for the Community and Nokmas since they have greater responsibility in the society in terms of mediation and other related matters. He further explained that this is not new to the people but just as a reminder for the people and the Nokmas to understand the nature of conflict and the process involved during justice delivery system in case of disputes among the people or groups where amicable dialogue is necessary between both parties to resolve any dispute.

Meanwhile, in the technical session that followed the participants were enlightened about the roles and responsibilities of mediators, communication and other related matters on mediation.

Legal Aid Counsel, Grangchina Ch Marak, Jingjang Ch Marak, Nokmas and people of the area were among others present during the training programme.
