Agartala, Jun 27: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said the state government has filled up vacant posts in various departments in a transparent way.
Speaking at the appointment letter distribution programme here, Saha said altogether 19,484 regular posts have been filled in various departments ever since the BJP came to power in the northeastern state.
“In addition, 5,700 were appointed as outsourcing and contractual employees in 2018. Besides, 2,987 persons are employed as security guards and other workers. As far as the government sector is concerned, the state has maintained transparency in the recruitment process,” he said after handing over a few appointment letters to successful candidates.
Claiming that appointment of 19,484 persons in the government sector is a big number for the small like Tripura, he said the government has taken steps to fill up vacant posts at the earliest.

“It (appointments in the government sector and others) shows the government is running on the right path. We are fulfilling the commitment of providing jobs to the unemployed,” he said.
Saha said the unemployability has reduced in the northeastern state during the past seven years with the government taking steps to fill up vacancies.
“The state’s unemployability has reduced from 10 per cent during 2018-19 to 1.7 per cent in 2023-24 FY according to a periodical labour force survey by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. Now, the state’s unemployment rate is less than the national figure of 3.2 per cent,” he said.
Saha said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra by 2047.
“It came to light that only 33.95 per cent of the government workforce has the required skill. With this, fulfilment of Viksit Bharat is not possible. The Prime Minister has taken steps for upgrading the skill of the government workforce. Now, it has risen to 54 per cent and it needs to be improved further,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s focus on infrastructure building, the chief minister said he inaugurated and laid foundation stones of development projects worth Rs 638 crore during six months of the current year.
“The state’s budget has increased to Rs 32,000 crore during 2025-26 FY from Rs 25,000 crore in 2024-25. The tax collection has also witnessed a major spike with 236 per cent increase since 2018,” he said.(PTI)
