Shillong, Apr 28: Deputy chief minister in-charge of PWD, Prestone Tynsong, has assured repair of the dilapidated bridge at Mawlyndep on Lad Umsaw-Mawmaram road within one month.
Tynsong reportedly gave the assurance to Meghalaya Commercial Truck Drivers and Owners Association (MCTOA) during a meeting on Monday.
Informing this, MCTOA Mosklandar Marngar said condition of the bridge and ongoing construction of Shillong Western Bypass prompted restriction on trucks weighing over 9 tons on the road.

Expressing difficulties faced by truckers due to the restrictions, he quoted Tynsong saying that PWD would not only repair the bridge but also construct a subway to facilitate truck movement.
“The deputy chief minister assured us that within one month, the subway will be constructed, and the bridge at Mawlyndep will be repaired so that trucks carrying more than 9 tons can ply from Lad Umsaw to Mawmaram,” Marngar told reporters.
In the meeting, the MCTOA also urged the state government to explore an alternative route for trucks while the PWD carries out repair work.
The deputy chief minister he would further discuss the issue with authorities concerned.
