Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said that the department of urban affairs have identified the key hawking zones in the city.

“Obviously it will be difficult for us to provide alternative vending sites for each one.

So we have zeroed down on Khyndailad. We have now reached the final stage where the urban affairs department have shortlisted these vendors because there are roughly 200 sites. We are in a position to accommodate 200 vendors whereas the claims are much bigger. Once that is done we will then move on to the other sites,” he stated.

“We have now completed the construction of stalls for the vendors since there are more claimants than the stalls available. That exercise of ensuring that the most deserving get accommodated in these stalls – that is ongoing,” Lyngdoh added.
