Villagers revel in USTM New Year celebration 

USTM chancellor promises free education to students of surrounding villages  

Shillong, Jan 3: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated the New Year 2025 with various programmes, including a procession, traditional dance and music.

Besides the students and teachers of USTM, hundreds of villagers from neighbouring villages of the institute at Ninth Mile, Khanapara took part in the celebration, stated a press release.

The festivities culminated in a prayer gathering where attendees collectively prayed invoking blessings for the continued success and advancement of the university.

Addressing the gathering, USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque extended an invitation to the local community to take advantage of the higher educational and economic opportunities offered by USTM. 

Highlighting the university’s commitment to regional development, he announced that USTM would provide free education to all children and youth from the surrounding villages. He also assured entrepreneurial support to families in the area.

Vice-Chancellor Prof GD Sharma lauded the community’s involvement and stressed the vital role of collaboration between the university and its neighbours in achieving shared goals of progress and prosperity.
