VPP MLAs skip felicitation of new Deputy Speaker

Shillong, Sep 12: Four Opposition MLAs from Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Friday skipped the felicitation ceremony of the newly elected Deputy Speaker Limison D Sangma.

On the other hand, almost all opposition legislators from Garo Hills attended the felicitation ceremony, highlighting a potential divide within the opposition ranks.

The absent VPP MLAs are – Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit (Nongkrem), Brightstarwell Marbaniang (Mawlai), Heavingstone Kharpran (Mawryngkneng) and Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong).

Although the VPP did not state their reason of skipping the function, their empty chairs drew attention within the Assembly.
