Winter Tales 2025 to promote eco-friendly initiatives under Go Green Awards

Shillong, Dec 2: This year’s Winter Tales is all set to return to Ward’s Lake with the government announcing the introduction of the Go Green Awards which will honour creative and grassroots efforts that contribute to ecological awareness and responsible living in Meghalaya.

The sixth edition of the Christmas-season festival which will be held from December 11 to 13 aims to recognise individuals and groups championing eco-friendly initiatives across the state.

The festival will highlight the artistry rooted in Meghalaya’s handcraft traditions where every installation, performance and market stall will feature handmade and locally crafted work, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to conscious living.

Sustainability continues to remain at the heart of Winter Tales, with organisers promoting the use of bamboo, jute and locally sourced materials while minimising non-biodegradable waste. The festival’s culinary and music segments will follow the “vocal for local” philosophy, featuring homegrown chefs, tastemakers and performers who blend traditional, cultural and contemporary influences.

Organised by The Meghalaya Age Limited in collaboration with the State Tourism Department and curated by Dakti.

Categories for 2025 include – Film: PSA filmmaking that motivates communities on sustainability; Art: Eco-conscious creativity through hands-on craft; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Initiatives: Resource-efficient innovations; Sustainability Cell: Organised groups driving structured environmental action; Community-Led Initiatives: Grassroots collaborations for community sustainability; Green Ambassador: Individuals leading by example; Installations: Eco-friendly public art; Food: Sustainable culinary practices; Photography: Visual narratives showcasing ecological or traditional themes and Writing: Work that advances ecological awareness and responsible living.

Through these awards, the festival aims to spotlight local role models—artists, educators, innovators and community organisers—whose efforts exemplify Meghalaya’s growing sustainability movement.
