WJH man gets 10-year jail term for rape

Shillong, Dec 11: A lower court has convicted one Wanbha Bhoi of Mukroh village to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman at her residence in October 2018.

The District and Sessions Court in Jowai presided over by N A Khan, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Bhoi for the offence under Section 376(1) IPC and an additional two years of imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 1,000 for criminal intimidation under Section 506 IPC.

The case was registered based on an FIR lodged by the victim on October 8, 2018, alleging that Bhoi had raped her at her residence on the night of October 7, 2018, and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.
